Cacharel Scarlett Perfume for Women

"Romantic, fresh, and daring." A new phrase that captures Cacharel's new women's fragrance, Scarlett (in reference to an archetypal feminine heroine). It's a new take on the 1970's fragrance Anaïs Anaïs, which dominated the perfume world. The perfume was composed by "triumvirate" of noses from Firmenich Honorine Blanc, Alberto Morillas, and Olivier Cresp (Angel; Light Blue; Kenzo Jungle pour Homme; Nina Ricci; Bond Girl 007...) The fragrance Scarlett by Cacharel will incorporate a juicy citrus and pear prelude to a white floral heart of jasmine, orange blossom and honeysuckle anchored with tea notes, white musk and sandalwood. Much like their first foray with Anais Anais which relied heavily on lily, and a return to less sugary compositions, a suprising aspect taking into account the fragrance is geared towards the 15-25 years of age demographic (a generation raised on very sweet perfumes). Particular attention was lavished upon the flacon which had to be as distinctive as the bottle of Anaïs Anaïs was originally. The milky white and pastel rose color palette has been preserved but the design inspired by porcelain biscuit pottery,  just like the original Anaïs Anaïs, sets it apart from the competition. The packaging is signed by Christophe Pillet.

Cacharel Scarlett will be available in sizes ranging from 35 to 80 ml Eau de Toilette and wil be launched mid July '09.

Punk rocker Avril Lavigne unveiled her newest fragrance May 2009 called Black Star perfume for women. The launch party was held at PUNK in Oxford Circus, London, where Avril gave a group of international journalists a preview of her latest project. Last year, Avril Lavigne signed a major deal with Procter and Gamble to produce the new product line that includes perfume, aftershave, bath oil, bath soap, shower gel, body shampoo, and body lotion. The new scent “was inspired by Avril’s individuality and style” and is described as “young and fresh and edgy”. These hip fragrance notes feature pink hibiscus, black plum and dark chocolate. The flirtatious bottle features a detachable studded ring around the neck.

“I’m traveling to London next week where I’m about to announce my latest project ………. my very first fragrance! I’m really excited and can’t wait to share it with you. It will be available across Europe this summer, and soon in the US and Canada." Says Avril in a recent blog. “It has been a pretty cool experience. It’s so me in a bottle….hahaha! I love the packaging. I wanted to let you guys know the name first … so…..(drum roll please)…….hahah….. The name is Black Star!”

Do It Yourself Manicure-Nail Tips for Beautiful Nails This Summer

A good manicure is important to your appearance. You use your hand to emphasize points in a conversation and to do daily tasks. Whether or not you use polish, your nails should be conservative, healthy, and always well manicured. To keep your nails attractive, give yourself a weekly manicure.

Set aside about a half hour and have the following items before you start: emery board, cuticle scissors, nail buffer, a bowl of warm water, polish remover, nail brush, orangewood stick, cotton balls, base coat or nail hardener, nail polish and top coat.

1. Remove old polish with a cotton ball dampened with nail polish remover. Press the cotton ball firmly to the nail and hold until for a few seconds. Pull the cotton ball down the centre so the polish doesn’t smear on the skin around the nail. Use a clean cotton ball to remove any stubborn polish.

2. Holding it on a slant, use an emery board to shape nails. Use long strokes in one direction toward the centre of the nail (don’t go back and forth). Don’t file the nails away at the corners because it weakens the nails. Make the curve blunt and don’t file your nails into sharp points.

3. In a rotating motion use your thumb to massage cuticle cream into the rough skin at the sides and base of the nails. Try Nail Tek Hydration Therapy Cuticle Creme.

4. Soak your nails in warm water for a few minutes to soften the cuticle. Clean your nails thoroughly using a nailbrush.

5. Wrap the end of the orangewood stick in cotton and apply cuticle remover to the blunt end. Use it to loosen dead skin from around the nails.

6. Use scissors on hangnails only. Never cut cuticles.

7. Make sure your nails are free from polish and are clean and dry. If you don’t wear polish, simply buff your nails lightly lengthwise from the base to the tip and you’re finished. Try Revlon Wonder-Buff Nail Buffer.

8. Wipe nails again with polish remover to make sure you get rid of any traces of oil moisture or soap.

9. For normal nails apply a clear base coat to the entire surface of each nail. If you have problem nails use nail hardener instead.

10. Apply nail polish using 3 strokes, one from the centre base to the tip and one on each side. Use only enough polish to do one nail at a time. Don’t redo while wet. Try a splash of color with O.P.I. South Beach Collection Nail Polish.

11. When the first coat is completely dry (about ten minutes) apply a second coat.

12. Finish with a coat of sealer for added protection and allow to dry for at least 30 minutes. Avoid contact with water until nails are completely dry.

Overexposure will damage your skin and put your health at risk. Sunburns are painful and the damage done can never be reversed. Take precautions this summer with these simple tips and ideas!

Knowing your UVA's and UVB's

UVA rays’ damage does not show up right away. They do not cause painful sunburns, but their effects are very real and long lasting. They account for about 95% of all ultraviolet energy and release energy throughout the daylight hours. UVA's have the power do permanent damage to our DNA, as well as to the elastin and collagen fibers that make our skin firm and healthy. They can pass through all glass including windows, windshields, and sunglasses.

UVB rays do burn your skin. Though they don't delve as deep into the skin's layers as UVA's, UVB's can damage the DNA at the heart of skin cells, and are a main cause of skin cancer. UVB’s can’t pass through glass but they do reflect off light colors such as sand, white decks, snow, etc.

When you go outside without SPF, longer, stronger, aging UVA rays and shorter, skin-scorching UVB rays force their way inside the epidermis (skin's top layer), inviting free radicals.

What exactly is a sunburn?

A sunburn has three stages. Sunburn is nothing more than a burn and burns have three stages. The redness is what is called 1st degree burn. This is the one most people get from being out in the sun too long without an adequate sunblock. If you receive a 1st degree sunburn form the sun you are aware how uncomfortable it can be. After you have gotten sunburn, you want to keep the skin moist. Using a cold cream will give you some relief. There is also some sprays that relieve the pain and also keep the skin moist. If you develop blistering you have what is called 2nd degree burn.

Heat Exhaustion

Heat exhaustion can take place after several days of exposure of high temperatures and inadequate replacement of fluids. The symptoms of heat exhaustion are paleness, heavy sweating, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, fainting, nausea and vomiting. The skin will become cool and moist also you could have a rapid pulse and heart rate. To avoid heat exhaustion drink plenty of fluids even when your not thirsty. Wear light and loose fitting clothing. You should also wear a hat. You could have a more serious problem if its not taken care of.
